Van Persie Vs Everton

Arsenal 1-0 Everton (Premier League) 10th December 2011

Van Persie celebrates scoring a stunning winner

Not a stranger to scoring volleyed goals. Van Persie already has a spot at number 3 in Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals for his goal against Charlton (2006). In that game the Dutchman met the cross at high speed, 20 yards from goal, leaping into the air to keep his left boot over the ball, executing his volley perfectly. His volley Vs Everton required different technique. The strike was just as sweet.

Arsene Wenger afterwards: “We needed something special to score and in the end Robin got it.
“I have to give credit to Alex Song who gave him a great ball, but it’s never easy to score this kind of goal. You have to get the timing right. It is an art, but Robin masters it well. We seem to be very Van Persie-dependent at the moment. He delivered something special."

Di Canio goal Vs Wimbledon

West Ham 2-1 Wimbledon (Premier League) 26th March 2000

Di Canio's majestic volley is possibly the greatest goal in Premier League history. It's one of those moments that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

Di Canio watches his shot fly past the keeper

Sizing up a cross-field pass from Trevor Sinclair at Upton Park, Di Canio eschewes any thoughts of taking a touch or controlling the aerial ball. Instead, he leaps into the air and executes a technically-perfect volley, sending the ball arching past Neil Sullivan and into the far corner of the net.

Zidane goal Vs Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 Real Madrid (CL Final) - 15th May 2002

Greatest goal on the greatest (club) stage? Zinedine Zidane's volley wins the Champions League.

Zidane gets into position
Zidane connects perfectly

A lofted pass from Solari down the left wing sends Roberto Carlos and Zoltan Sebescen scampering to the edge of the 18 yard box. Carlos gets there first, but the Bayer Leverkusen player does enough to force him to loop a hopeful punt into the penalty area. It balloons into the night sky, and drops. Zinedine Zidane, 18 yards out, watching and waiting, adjusts his body and, in one smooth movement, pirouettes and catches it full on the volley with his left foot. It flies past Hans-Jorg Butt.

Bergkamp goal - Arsenal Vs Newcastle

Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal (FA Cup QF) - 2nd March 2002

Gunners greatest goal - As voted by Arsenal's fans.

Bergkamp shows unbelievable skill and composure

Patrick Vieira starts a typically fluid counter-attack, picking out Bergkamp from deep inside his own half. The Dutchman sprays the ball wide to Robert Pires and then storms through the centre while the French winger makes progress down the left.

Pires cuts inside looking for options and spots Bergkamp on the edge of the box; he duly arrows a pass towards the Dutchman.

Bergkamp, who is on the move from right to left, has Newcastle defender Nikos Dabizas in close attention. The ball comes at speed towards his left foot and, in an instant, Bergkamp works out the best way to craft a goalscoring opportunity. He flicks the ball one side of Dabizas and goes round the other side, showing great strength to hold off the defender.

Having shown incredible skill and strength, Bergkamp still needs the composure to finish off what he has started. He coolly dispatches the ball past Shay Given and into the bottom corner.

Messi hat-trick - Barcelona Vs Atletico Madrid

Barcelona 5 -0 Atletico Madrid (Primera Liga) - 24th September 2011

Barca batter a pretty good Atletico side without much effort thanks to a great hat-trick by Messi.

A goal of rare brilliance from Lionel Messi for his first as he takes the throw with Pedro on the right, quickly collects the ball back and scoots past one defender and then dupes two more on the edge of the box which puts him through on Courtois. He shapes to place it in the far corner before sweeping it in at the near post.
